This morning the Carolina Hurricanes cut the preseason roster down to 29. They sent down Brock McGinn and Patrick Brown to the AHL and placed Derek Ryan on waivers. Ryan should clear waivers and head to the Charlotte Checkers as well. The final roster size of 23 must be set by Tuesday 10/11 at 5 pm. The door is now open for either Hayden Fleury, Roland McKeown, or Trevor Carrick to fill out the last spot on defense. With Ryan Murphy’s injury, whoever Peters chooses will see ice time every game which may influence his choice differently than if he had everyone healthy. Victor Stalberg most likely has earned his spot on the fourth line, but have Phil DiGiuseppe and Lucas Wallmark surpassed Bryan Bickell and Jay McClement respectively? And what about Sergey Tolchinsky where does he fit in all this? If he makes the team does that mean someone like Joakim Nordstrom gets pushed down onto the fourth line knocking out somebody else? With so many questions, it’s going to be exciting to see what the final roster looks like after the last six cuts next week. For the official release from the Hurricanes head here.
